Soundsystems

Newly added: M1 Sound

Still, like the radio deejay, these Sound Systems still play the bulk of the music releases giving the avid fan an opportunity to get familiar with the music and potentially buy albums or patronage shows of their favorite artists. With this in mind we are likewise dedicating this section to the many uprising Sound Systems and the older sounds. From Jamaica, England, USA, down under and all over, like the artists held in these pages, we will be adding biographies, photos, booking/contact information and interviews when published. In the meantime, I do encourage you to check out some sound interviews by the Dainty Crew at their site. Enjoy!

Sound Systems have been long considered the backbone of Dancehall. With origins dating back to the 1940's and people like Hedley Jones, Sound Systems have played an important roll in the various Jamaican communities as means to play music for the massives that could not
afford to buy such a luxury. There are a few sounds that have managed to make money by negotiating deals to do the official mixes for record labels like; Bobby Konders & Jabba of MASSIVE B, Delano of Renaissance, ADONAI with their mega mix for VP's 2000 Reggae Gold and
Tony Matternhorn. Dub plates have always been an important of the sound system circuit, particularly when there's a clash involved. There are a few sounds that have their rise to popularity due to their dub plates. Many artists have started their career from alliances with a sound system.
